In many of the countries we are visible in there are age restrictions on the use of tobacco based products, there is also prohibitions on the promoting of tobacco related products.
There are known health issues and given the potential gae groups of our visitors and members it is socially responsible to not allow discussion of this kind.

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning. I just looked at the OP as pretty neutral, with a fairly simple question, and I am sure most of the responses would have been about the dangers of tobacco and health-related issues. I do not think he was promoting tobacco in any way. Also, if tobacco is a no-no for the cafe, then what about all the alcohol related threads? Surely alcohol can be seen to be not safe for minors and a horrible thing for your body. And with the "what's your favorite beer" type threads, I don't know how much more you can be "promoting" alcohol...
I found the following tobacco related threads, none of which were ever locked:

In the first one, you even had a post or two KiwiNZ: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...&postcount=121
Just saying, let's at least be consistent here.
Thanks for pointing those out - they are now closed.

hehe, well while I still respectfully disagree with the decision, at least we're being consistent.
