so, i assume when i would re-boot on an installed 12.10, i would need to enter the command in the terminal each time, right?
(it only works for the session, true?) actually better if it does, that way i can see when it actually does get fixed...

thanks to your workaround, think i will probably go ahead and install 12.10 and watch for an update that fixes it...
Yes, that command is only good for the session, which is a benefit, IMO.

Actually, 10 minutes works for me, 99% of the time. But, if you're watching a half-hour video, or 120-minute movie, almost any setting will drive you crazy, hence the workaround.

Just curious...vinDSL or anyone else who may know...i assume there is a bug report in about the screen display only working at the 10 minute default setting...since it seems that most are experiencing it..

Anyone have a link to it?

Been getting tons of updates that seem to be stabilizing and smoothing the overall performance but i haven't as of yet seen a fix for this problem yet...

Re: Need feedback on Unity performance in 12.10

Update: hey, good news! looks like it was fixed in this afternoon's updates...my display is now going off at 30 minutes as i had it set to (instead of the default 10 minutes)...

edit: thought it was fixed...worked fine after the updates, but then when i re-booted it was right back to the 10 minute default again.....grrrr

finally seemed to have "kicked in" after i re-booted a few times and is working well...So, the fix came in today's updates, but keep in mind you may find that you have to re-boot a few times for it to start working reliably...

No doubt, on the final release it should work fine...i plan on re-installing "fresh" when 12.10 is final released...
Sure is fun watching the changes with the various bug fixes and updates...

Man, the upgrades are rolling-in like crazy!

I read your post, a couple of hours ago, and did an upgrade -- 85 of them.

An hour later, I was bored and checked again. 41 more were sitting there. LoL!

Must be Unity related stuff, I'm just getting small KDE updates stuff like apport-kde etc.

Probably so, kio_http...a lot of unity and also gnome related updates that you wouldn't be getting in your kubuntu...

By the way...just curious, but are you guys just going to "roll" into the final release or are you planning on re-installing when the final is released?

Personally, I don't run final releases. I'd rather stick push-pins in my eyeballs, and walk into oncoming traffic. LoL!

I'll just keep "rolling" down the road...

Specifically, on 25-October-2012 (3 weeks from now) I'll be installing the 13.04 toolchain test build.

And, Ubu 12.10 while just become a fond memory, like all the others.

You might want to try this. IMO, pre-alpha is the sweet spot, in all this testing nonsense -- 5-6 weeks of bliss -- then it all starts over again, when the devs regroup and return from their summit.

Re: Need feedback on Unity performance in 12.10

Time for ubuntu to become a rolling release (lol)
getting tired of all these 6 month re-installs...(can't resist each new version)...

By the way, my display went back to the 10 min intervals again (instead of 30 min as i set it to) so, it broke again! (grrrr...lol)
probably one of the recent updates trigged that...
how yours doing? still working right?

I find bugs when I install so I'll be doing installs on my 3 test pc's netbook, notebook, tower.
