It's good and stable but looks archaic when compared to 12.04+ and other modern operating systems, e.g. Win8.

So, I believe 12.04 and 12.10 are better, offering the power of Gnome but are also modern and beautiful.

I also prefer 12.04 and 12.10. Unity has come a long way, IMO.

    Not me.
In four years, when 16.10 is about to come out and everyone complains about the decision to drop keyboard and mouse support in favor of motion-detection, someone is going to post the same thing about 12.04.
Lucid is great. Rock solid. But not the best.
The best is yet to come.

It is sad ,though, that support for lucid wasn't extended to five years like 12.04.

I couldn't agree more. It's been a work horse for family, friends and associates since it's release. Those members who weren't around for versions released prior to 10.04, probably don't realize the value of it. However, arguing over it seems foolish - as soon it won't be supported.

With the EOL of 10.04 looming, we have decided to switch to Xubuntu. A number of family members and friends have already switched. The configuration capabilities and stability is IMHO very similar to 10.04. We've been running Xubuntu 12.04 on a desktop for testing and it's been rock stable. The family enjoys the ease of configuration and with just one exception (Thundar - file manager) the initial apps seem more than adequate.

New and improved doesn't imply that it meets the needs of everyone. Each user should decide for themselves what works best for them, ignoring the comments of others. My only suggestion is to let go of 10.04 and spend a little time investigating a suitable replacement. You might be surprised as to the number of available alternatives (such as K,L,Xubuntu, etc.) that may meet or even exceed your expectations. I'm certain some here will argue (hardcore) for the new Ubuntu releases. Big surprise. But for those who find them lacking - don't dwell on the past. But rather, seek an available alternative and get involved in improving it.

IMHO it's one of the true benefits of Linux - "CHOICE"

    Good Luck

Just my $0.02 and in an effort to keep this thread open, I won't comment again.
