I have an hp oj4500 all-in-one wireless printer. I have used the scanner flawlessly for a year with wireless. Yesterday I began having no device recognized problems (but that is another issue entirely) so I reconnected via usb. My printer is recognized, and the scan operation runs, but the "image" captured using XSane is blank. I attempted to use the simple scan program and it appears to work, but I like the multi-page PDF support in xsane.
Does anyone know how to get the XSane scanner to start again??

So I completely reinstalled HPLIP with the newest version from HP website, and reinstalled XSane (after complete removal using synaptic). I am still able to capture an image using simple scan so I know the scanner works but XSane is still not working. It recognizes my printer and causes it to begin scan operation, says recieving RGB data and pops up with what should be the scanned image - but is just an empty window with no image at all.
