+1! It took me some time to connect having a OMGUbuntu tab opened in Chrome to a ridiculously slow Dash and dying performance when moving windows on Unity. And it seemed so absurd to me I was too embarrassed to even bring that up

Do you have a theory? I think it stops eating resources when I disable Javascript:

+1 on the problems with omgubuntu.
    Asus K55A (Core i5-3210M @ 2.5GHz/8GB RAM/120GB SSD/Intel HD 4000) with Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2

@effenberg0x0 I think you're right, it is a java problem, right now it seems to be OK, but opening the javascript console in chromium, I get the following errors:

    Code:
    Failed to load resource http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js
    Failed to load resource http://api.websitedevops.com/jsoops.js
    Failed to load resource http://s3.buysellads.com/ac/bsa.js
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) http://media.disqus.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/347/7577/cached75.jpg

Interesting! I'm getting 99% CPU usage.

Actually, it lags out for about 15 seconds, 99% CPU, then it simmers down.

Watching the page closely, when the CPU usage drops back to normal, I get an error message.

DISQUS seems to be taking longer than usual. Reload?
Best guess is, there's a server-side javascript issue in their "comments" plugin and/or my browser (Chromium) is incompatible.

I looked at several articles and didn't see a single comment on any of them... just the error dialog.

Which is finally some definite proof that most people commenting on Ubuntu-related sites are actually MS employees and not real Ubuntu users

omgubuntu also is a 'webapp' whatever. It also doesn't have a 'No thanks, Stop asking' so will keep popping up unless you either accept if wanted or add to the dontask list

Just wanted to post a screenshot of the Task Manager in Chromium (it's affected the same, just as Chrome - as expected).

I'm playing with blocking Javascript from the involved domains, to try to catch the culprit.

Edit / Preferences / Privacy / Content Settings / Javascript / Manage Exceptions

    - Hostname Pattern: omgubuntu.co.uk / Behavior: Block
    No improvement

    - Hostname Pattern: disqus.com / Behavior: Block
    No improvement

    - Hostname Pattern: ajax.googleapis.com / Behavior: Block
    No improvement

    - Hostname Pattern: googlesyndication.com / Behavior: Block
    No improvement

    - Hostname Pattern: doubleclick.net / Behavior: Block
    No improvement

    - Hostname Pattern: buyselladds.com / Behavior: Block
    No improvement

    - Hostname Pattern: gaug.es / Behavior: Block
    No improvement

    Then:
Edit / Preferences / Privacy / Content Settings / Javascript / "Do not allow any site to run Javascript"
    *Huge* improvement

    Well, it's intriguing...

    Effenberg

Re: Maby I'm going senile -but really cool min-effect now

I went to omgubuntu just a minute ago and it loaded surprisingly faster than usual, so perhaps they've fixed something. Even so, prior to visiting the site my CPU was at 1% or less on all cores (even with a couple of websites open); on visiting, two of the cores throttled up to around 16% and one to around 8%. I suppose that's not awful, though, because there's a lot going on on that site.

    Is DISQUS loading for you?!?!?

I just viewed that article again, and everything seems the same, e.g. it's still broken.
