    Windows 7 and Ubuntu No Boot Menu

    I had Windows 7 on the computer, and wished to install Ubuntu 12.04 alongside and dual-boot. I've done this before with Windows Vista/Ubuntu 10.04 but I'm not having any luck this time.

    Using a live USB, I booted into the Install, selected the top selection, and resized the partition. I clicked next, entered all the info required, and it installed just fine.

    I'm not sure how to do what I need to do to fix this. When I power on the computer it will just go into Windows 7, and grub does not come up. I saw a link for the boot script and this is the Results.txt

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    You still have Windows boot loader in the MBR of sda.

    Some systems promote the USB flash to sda and the default install of grub2's bootloader then goes into the flash drive not the hard drive. But you still have syslinux in the flash as it should. So where did the grub install go? Or did you get an error message?

    Some BIOS have a setting that locks MBR, you may want to check that.

    If you want a gui, this works well for most. You can just install into your USB flash drive live version.

    You can repair many boot issues with this or 'Create BootInfo' report (Other Options) & post the link it creates, so we can see your exact configuration and diagnose advanced problems.

    You can also manually install grub2's boot loader.

    Thanks for the reply. This is the 2nd attempt at installing 12.04.... From the looks of it... grub is on sda5? Boot-repair s

    As for error messages, I haven't received any. The install itself went smoothly just like I've done a million times before.

    The boot GUI worked fine for me, I selected sda to install grub in--and it took care of all the work.

    I'm still puzzled as to why the actual distro installation didn't properly do this though?

    Did you run the reinstall of grub that just puts the boot loader into the MBR or a full purge & reinstall of grub2?

    You can post as solved, if it is working.

    I think there was a bug on UEFI systems in BIOS/MBR mode that grub does not install correctly.
    Script reported this, so is your system UEFI (but in BIOS mode?)
    BIOS is EFI-compatible, and is setup in EFI-mode for this live-session.

    Just rebooted and checked in the bios...

    There is an UEFI option under the boot sections, and its set to enabled. So I assume the answer to your question is yes.

    As for fixing it, Boot-Repair didn't have me purge anything *i don't believe*.
