Red face 12.04 64 bit WMA playback glitch

    Hi Folks,

I would appreciate if anyone can point me in the correct direction.

I have a small glitch with Rhythmbox and Banshee when playing WMA files. At about the 2 second mark there is a hesitation before the rest of the track is played properly. This does not happen when playing MP3 files.

As most of my music collection is in WMA format (some 12K files) I don't really want to have to convert these files to another format to get around the problem. Also some of the WMA files are 5.1 and I would hate to lose that capability.

Interestingly enough, MPlayer plays the WMA files without a glitch, indicating that the problem probably lies with Pulse (please correct me if I'm wrong).

    Any suggestions?

    Many thanks in advance.

Ok - problem also persists in 12.10 (an upgrade).

    However, editting /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and changing

    default-fragments = 8

    to

    default-fragments = 16

    fixes the problem.

The changed required a logout to put it into effect.
