12.04.01 can't boot from cd, usb, or wubi.exe. new build.

Hi all,

Just built my first desktop, and I can't get 12.04 64amd to boot from cd, usb, or via a wubi.exe install.

from cd and usb i get a few of the first flash-screens, then a black screen with an endlessly blinking cursor. with ubuntu installed via wubi, i get the windows boot-loader os choice screen, and if ubuntu is selected we get back to the endlessly blinking cursor.

the hardware is:

i7 3820 lga 2011 cpu
biostar tpower x79 motherboard
gtx 560 ti 2gb gpu
kingston hyperx 120gb ssd
