Ubuntu One vs. Dropbox

I just found a service called Dropbox (http://www.getdropbox.com/) and was curious how this stacks up vs. Ubuntu One. I have not used either one... but from reading the details they seem similar in function, but dropbox is cross-platform.

You may also want to take a look at SpiderOak.

It's cross-platform but also offers you privacy and encryption.

SpiderOak is offering 50% off for EDU accounts too... this could work for the people that showed me dropbox.

Dropbox is cross-platform, but the dropboxd daemon only supports Linux on x86 (maybe 64 also). OTOH, the Ubuntu One client is mostly hardware independent and the rest is easily built from source; this makes it nice if you are running Ubuntu on PowerPC, for instance.

SpiderOak is cross-platform and supports 64-bit (not PowerPC, though).

One of Ubuntu One's benefits is the fact it's open source which can be quite helpful for quick and innovative development. Currently I prefer Dropbox but maybe that'll change.

I have been using both. Ubuntu-one is very attractive but sometimes won't syncronize files in cloudy. Then I usually use Dropbox for work. Now I heard another option, "spider oak". I will try it soon.

Then we can have UbuntuOne on ARM handhelds/phones, which would be pretty nice.

I was wondering if there are some application that makes it possible to set up a "dropbox/ubuntuone" service on our own server?
