    As I continue to play with this feature, this is my conclusion as well. The lack of an option to disable this is perplexing to me, as is the casual manner in which its supporters say "you can just uninstall it".

    I use Amazon often and would probably take advantage of the ability to search the site from my desktop. However, I do not want these results (aka ads) cluttering my home lens. If uninstalling is my only option, I will happily do that, and Ubuntu will lose any affiliate revenue.

    That would pretty much placate my personal concerns. I, as others have voiced on here, am more worried over clutter in my search results rather than any privacy issues.

    It should teach the meta-complainers. If nobody called this out, these improvements would not happen.

    There is also work being done to actually encrypt the search data.

    But I still think it is better to have it disabled by default.
