User account on panel has dissapeared

This is not critical, but I like to have my name shown on the panel. Is there any way to get this back?

Sorry about the lack of information, but I haven't the slightest idea of why it has disappeared.

My ubuntu version is 12.04.

Ok, I will try to clarify. Right next the clock there are a menu with useraccounts, and it shows your nick (name or nick, what you call yourself on the PC). This menu has vanished.

I do believe it vanished after I used the command

apt-get purge java*

I didn't notice at the time, since my system was nearly wiped out by this command. Managed however to restore my system.

All but this.

Hope someone can help me now. It's not a big deal, but Ubuntu feels not complete when it's not there.
