    Icon spacing in Nautilus

Hi, I'm new to Linux but very well versed in computers. I was wondering if there is any way to eliminate the huge gap between thumbnail images when using the icons view. If I max the thumbnail size (about 15% the width of my screen) than the thumbs wont even show horizontally. They just appear vertical almost as they would in list view.

There seems to be an unreasonable amount of horizontal space or padding between each thumb. Is there any way to correct this?

If so, any help would be appreciated

Hello, and welcome to the world of Freedom!

My guess is that padding is there to allow more space for longer file names.

I don't think it can be changed in Nautilus.

Of course, if you don't like the behavior of Nautilus, you could look for an alternative. When looking for software in Ubuntu, the first place you should look is the Software Center. In this case, search for "file manager". You will find scores of options.

    Happy Ubuntuing!

    Re: Icon spacing in Nautilus

Thanks for the reply. I noticed that the file browser didn't support any sort of line break in file names. In fact, in my case for some folders I would actually rather just view the thumbnails without a file name at all (but that's another topic)

I suppose I will have to experiment with file browsers. Anyone have any suggestions? I know there are a lot of them

My suggestion is that you read the reviews people have already written while you're looking around the Software Center.

Do you mean file names that actually contain line breaks? I wasn't aware that such file names were even supported in Linux (or any other system, for that matter). If you mean you want the browser to put long names on multiple lines (wrap), Nautilus does that by default, although it might only break at special characters.
