What printer should I buy ?

    Hi everyone,

I didn't know where to post, sorry if I have mistaken.

I just bought a Samsung printer which was supposed to work on Linux distributions. It didn't and when I called the customers support they just told me that the printer was working on Linux but not on Ubuntu and that I should change.

So I won't buy Samsung's printers anymore. But now I don't know who can I trust. That's why I'm here.

I'm looking for a very simple laser B&W printer and cheap. But most of all I want it to could be installed very easily and works absolutly fine on Ubuntu.

If you have any ideas or advices I would be happy to read it.

I precise that I'm looking for a specific model, I know that HP and Brother make a lot of printers compatible but I would like to know if some of you know a model that works perfectly.

(I apologize if I made mistakes, my English is so bad.)

I've had good experiences with two printers that I own:

First, a Brother MFC-8820D, which is now about 7 years old and still working fine. It's a black-and-white laser printer that, inter alii, does duplex printing (i.e., both sides of a sheet of paper).

Second, a Canon MG5220, which is now about 18 months old and also working fine. It's a color inkjet printer.

I use HP at home, but have had luck with Toshiba, Canon, Lexmark and Xerox at work.

I usually check this site out when researching printers.

HP does support their printers under Linux very well. Their drivers and GUI tool are available in Software center and work very well.

I have an OfficeJet which works wonderfully, and I have complete access to all the functions, as well as the double-sided printing attachment.

For me, HP & Brother for printers. If you choose Brother, they have an installer script which makes setting up a Brother printer very easy. The scanner portion of Brother's multi-function machines can be a little tricky. 32 bit systems are a little easier, I think.

Thank you. The only thing is that I would like to buy a new one and the first is impossible to find. For the second, I' mad with Canon so I won't buy anymore from them.

Thanks for all of your responses but like I said I prefer have an idea of what specific model is working well. I took one look on the HP site for example and for some of those printers on other websites it says that they aren't compatible. To avoid any complications I rather buy a model that someone has and who could tell me everything's fine.

I know, I'm picky, sorry about that.

Brother and HP are very well supported. I could say my Brother works 'perfectly' and so does the inlaws which I'm using now.
