    32-bit or 64-bit?

Okay. I just burnt my first iso and downloaded the 32 bit. I'm now wondering:

    1)What difference do they make?

2)Which one would be a better start for a nebie like me on this particular computer?

    and

2)Can I run the 64 bit on my computer? ...see info below:

Somewhere in or on your computer, it should tell you if it's 32 or 64 bit.
    If you aren't sure, use 32bit. You can use 32 on a 64bit, but you can't use a 64 on a 32bit. As far as I know.

It's probably a 32, it looks a lot like mine.

    What operating system Do I have? A 32bit or a 64bit?

As far as I can see you have only 512mb of ram? That's definitely 32-bit computer. 64-bit is used on computers that have 4gb or more ram.

    Regards.

    x86 is 32 bit. x86_64 (or just x64) is 64 bit.

That's a 32-bit processor based on the Intel Dothan chips.

You can only use the 32-bit version of Ubuntu.

It doesn't. I tried Ubuntu first and when I booted it, it told me pae wasn't there, lol. That's why I'm running Lubuntu (due to very good advice here!).

    Thank you everyone!

Question dual boot on 32 bit?

I defragged Windows last night. Can I dual boot XP with Lubuntu?

    Nutz & Boltz:

EDIT: If I add stuff to lubuntu, will it all save or erase when I install it?
