Any one with any solution ?
12.04 has for more problems than 11.10.
Its only because of its LTS that i thought of upgrading.
Feel it was a wrong dicision.

    Re: 12.04 Grub Problem

If for whatever reason Windows is not shutdown correctly, then it may be running auto repairs and overwriting MBR?

So now the real issue seems to be Windows not shutting down correctly. Are you turning it off before it has a chance to close? After updates I have had Windows take many minutes to shutdown (and reboot).

    Seems like:
    - either GRUB writes in XP partition,
    - or this XP doesn't like the MBR to contain GRUB (MBR lock?)

Are you hibernating Windows not fully shutting down?

Does Windows have at least 20 or 30% free space?

Have you run chkdsk and defrag recently? And any other XP maintenance?

    Always full shutdown or reboot

Does Windows have at least 20 or 30% free space?

It is newly formated partition and has just a few applications and ample space.

Have you run chkdsk and defrag recently? And any other XP maintenance?

No such thing i hate using xp just have to be there to back up my phone data and one other small software.

    Re: 12.04 Grub Problem

When i boot in xp and then boot in ANY linux (even boot repair live disk) the boot menu is displayed TWICE. First i choose my option then the booting starts again and displays the menu again. And then after i select my option it boots.

Can we get any clue from this ?

This is the behavior some people reported when Windows7/8 hibernation is activated.
Never heard of it before for XP.

For information, Windows8 "restart" uses a kind of hibernation. I don't know for XP.

    Re: 12.04 Grub Problem

If you want to experiment you could try installing grub legacy. It still is in the repository and works for basic systems. Grub legacy has not been updated for many newer systems.

Boot-Repair will not work on fixing grub legacy. It should reinstall grub2 if needed. You will have to use the older reinstall method if you have grub legacy issues.
