    Opus encoding has just been added if you want to svn up and try it out...

    I can't put my finger on it, but there's something about AAC I don't like (in terms of audio quality). I prefer OGG/Mp3 for lossy and FLAC for lossless. Good info, nonetheless.

    it's all about the ear and what we pick up/prefer [sort of like your "sonic taste"] i do not like aac but i adore neroAacEnc especially in the low bitrates with HE-AACv2 .... totally different

    ogg is cool too and mp3 if 320 but for lossy nero wins by a landslide for me and still shorten for lossless

    The non-installation method again, using the existing svn download:

    Code:
    cd $HOME/abcde_build/abcde-read-only && \
    svn up && \
    ./abcde
    You will need the opus-tools package which is available in Quantal repository but not in Precise where you will have to build your own.

    Do you need to compile libogg as well? I confess I only have quantal vms at the moment so I cannot test this out

    Re: HE-AAC : how to turn an album into 22 MB of data

    Shantiq, can you do a recap of what is needed for the basics on this, e.g. what to install, what to compile to get HE-AAC working? Don't think I need all the bells and whistles you and Andrew46 have moved onto.....
