Ubuntu 12.04 Freezes on Lenovo L430

Hi, seems like a common issue accross the board with no real resolution, I have a Lenovo L430 which I purchased recently, I installed 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 with kernal 3.2.0.30-generic, with unity desktop and im getting system freezes a few times a day, I have to do a hard reset (hold power button down) to reset my machine, the mouse pointer freezes and the laptop is completely unresponsive.

The action I've taken so far:

    1. Removed Unity desktop, replaced with Xfce
    2. Replaced Open Java with Sun

I however still got a freeze, very annoying.

I know allot of people are experiencing these issues at the moment, and upgrading to 3.4 kernal seems to be an option, however im a bit reluctant in case it makes matters worse as I use the latop for work and cant afford to have a load more crashes during my work day.

    Any recommendations?

ok, so I set the pci=nocrs option in grub, i then get the following:

    Code:
PCI: Using host bridge windows from ACPI; if necessary, use "pci=use_crs" and report a bug
then when i change it back, i get

    Code:
PCI: Using host bridge windows from ACPI; if necessary, use "pci=nocrs" and report a bug
you have to be kidding me!

The workaround is to load the psmouse kernel module with the option proto=exps:
    Code:
echo "options psmouse proto=exps" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/trackpoint.conf
    Reboot.
