Should I be concerned using 10.10 for web apps

    So, to be more specific:

I use Ubuntu 10.10 for skype conversations, online banking mainly and some more web apps. I just cannot use 12.04 lts - for me it is not productive as gnome 2 (I know there was a time when the forum was on fire about this gnome2 vs unity stuff).

I know it is not wise to use dead os for banking but just don't like unity, kde, lxde, xfce and so on and so on... I tried Mint ... but I think I'm addicted to Maverick and when the time comes to quit, I will never go back to ubuntu.

Anyway, I don't have any security issues yet, but is there a way (Im even ready to pay programmers if possible) to continue using 10.10, and what security problems should I expect (if there is no way).

Is it safe to use skype for business conversations?

Please consider I'm not a coder and explain me the possibilities. Don't want this to look like spam, just can't shut down life support systems of 10.10 .. but I guess its time

    Thanks in advance.

Just install the Gnome desktop environment in Ubuntu 12.04

It's ridiculous to use an old OS just because of the DE when it can be so easily changed.

What specifically are your concerns with Skype? It's decent enough for conversations. I wouldn't use it to discuss highly sensitive information though.

I will try this when go back to office. Is it possible to set little pleasures like transparent panels and auto hide functions. And yes Im pretty sensitive about DE. But did not get decent answer - should i expect troubles? Many friends still use XP for online banking.

Your 10.10 browser doesn't get updates. Not secure.

Your friends who still use Windows XP for banking get updates to their browser, if they are using Firefox or Chrome.

    ok I see..

Now just to remind my second question and not to open new thread..

I installed gnome classic and it seems that transparency is not possible even with alt + right click, even on the application bars and menus.

I searched in this forum also in google but it seems there is not a good solution.
So, is there new solution on this problem or not!

    Thanks in advance

It would be a good idea to start a new thread in General Help or Desktop Environments. The folks who can help you with the transparency issues aren't likely to read this section of the forums.

The MATE DE is a fork of the GNOME 2 DE and still maintained, I've not used it a great deal so I can't say if it retains all the things you want from GNOME 2. Give it a whirl and see how it goes I guess.

    http://mate-desktop.org/

There's a brief run-through on installing it on Ubuntu 12.04 here:

It's a really simple repository addition and install.
