    "Connection Refused" with Android Remote Connections (VLC, Gmote, XBMC) New to12.04

    I had something that was a remote mouse, keyboard, and remote control for Windows (Unified Remote) and it worked great via my Android phone and WiFi.

    Trying to do something similar with Ubuntu 12.04 and I can't get through to connect. I tried Gmote, VLC Remote, and XBMC and none will let me connect.

    I keep getting
    java.net.ConnectException
    192.168.1.101/192.168.1.101:<port number in here>
    Connection Refused.


    When I run the Gmote Server on my machine I get:
    there was an error running Gmote Server

    Any way to find out what's happening here?
