Anyone know the optimal viewing angle for a laptop? Or any preference? Obviously we are not talking with artwork programs and such because of the angle difference would throw off the gamma/contrast, but still!

The optimal viewing angle for a laptop is the same as any other screen, straight forward. Angling of the screen is more toward lessening the stress on your neck and your eyes. I think you also need to be at least a foot back, maybe more, depends on the screen size I guess. But the optimal angle is parallel your face and the screen.
Viewable angle also depends a lot on the type (PVA, IPS etc) of lcd panel used. But straight on as mentioned above is always optimal.
You also have to take into consideration the type of screen it uses for a good angle as well. if it's glossy, matte, etc.
