How do you sync an android phone with Ubuntu?

I am about to get my first andriod phone (possible Galaxy Nexus) and want to know how you sync your contacts etc. with Ubuntu? I have used nokia PC suit with Windows in the past which meant I could send and receive messages etc. via the computer.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php is a brilliant resource for anything to do with android phones. Just make sure you do lots of research before posting on there... and watch the noob video! (not the one on the main page, the one that they tell you to watch before signing up. its worth watching even if you don't join the forum)
