"Universal" USB remote, will it work?

Not sure if this Google Translate link will work, so I'll quote the most important statement:

Before I buy it, will it work with Linux? Without having to fiddle with lirc?
I would guess, since it claims to act as a keyboard , it will only work with applications that have keyboard shortcuts.
Or could you still use lirc to capture it's signals and make it work with lirc-enabled applications? (My main use would be for VLC and Amarok)
