Ubuntu GUI's Included on disc for select

hi,
sorry for my bad english. but, why ubuntu have the option for select graphic interface. gnome (unity), kde, xfe? in the startup option?
it exists or not? it is possible to do it?

1) The Ubuntu developers want to keep the size of the installation files as small as possible. This is why some programs are left off the installation disk and need to be installed after Ubuntu has been installed. I am thinking of the database program in Libreoffice. And there are other programs that are also left off.

2) The other interfaces built on Ubuntu are developed separately and by different developers who like to keep some independence from Ubuntu. These interfaces are at different stages of development.

3) Ubuntu is Open Source software. There is little to prevent someone creating such an install disk as you request. I once got a disk that was given free by a Linux computer magazine and it installed several of these interfaces and I could switch from one to the other. It is not Ubuntu policy to provide this kind of installation disk.

4) These interfaces can be easily installed after Ubuntu has been installed.

5) The difference between Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, Ubuntu Studio and Lubuntu is more than just the user interface. This is why these Ubuntu varieties have there own install disks.

thanks for reply. so then what interface is the best!? kde? gnome? unity 2d or unity 3d, xfce? i used gnome, i know now that that doesnt exist anymore. now is unity. and in the next version it will be 3d not 2d i am right?

It all depends on your taste, so install them and give them a try.

In comparison, KDE is very customizable, resembles Windows, but it's also very heavyweight. Unity is slightly lighter and looks better, but it's not really customizable and it's different from the traditional desktop so you'll need to get used to it. Xfce and LXDE are lightweight desktops that have less features, but they are uses less resources and are really fast on old computers (LXDE being lighter than Xfce)
So take your pick.

Hi. This is off topic. Please start another thread if you wish to ask another question. (PS: The new thread will end up in Recurring Discussions and you will find plenty of discussion about it already there. Only you can answer the question of which is 'best' depending on your requirements.)

Xfce and LXDE ... are really fast on old computers (LXDE being lighter than Xfce)
So take your pick.

... and faster on higher spec modern machines. I have an i3 with 4Gb of RAM and have used Xubuntu and Xfce on other flavours for ages. My rocket.
