    OpenOffice recovery mode

Is anyone else having problems with OpenOffice saying that a document has to be recovered all the time? I always close OpenOffice before shutting down the PC, yet it seems like almost every time I open a document that I worked on previously OpenOffice says it has to recover it first. It always succeeds, but it's annoying nonetheless.

If I close OpenOffice and don't shut down the PC, then re-open OO and get a document, it doesn't seem to do the recovery mode thing.

I uninstalled OO and installed Libre via ppa. I'm running 10.04 so had to use the ppa method.

At first I thought the glitch had gone away, but it was back this morning. Said I had to recover a document that I'd worked on a few days ago.

Sorry I don't have a solution for you ... but you need to make sure that you copy the latest version of that document offline somewhere.

    Why?

Because I ran into exactly the same problems using both OO and LibreOffice, and one day, the document could NOT be recovered! The file system entry was still there, but it was a zero-length file.

Just be aware that OO and LibreOffice can trash your file.

You can try to reset your OpenOffice user profile. This should fix it. This is a recurrent problem under Windows, not really under GNU/Linux (according to the topics in the AOO forum).

    Hi,
Try pressing esc key and it will ask whether you want to recover the document or not?
Confirm No and You are done.

    Hey, guys -
    Thanks for the replies.

It sounds like Abhinav is saying that LibreOffice thinks the doc has to be recovered, but it really doesn't?

Hagar, I had no idea that OO/LO makes a user profile. Good to know.

And thanks Mr. Phelps for the heads-up. I'm trying to impose some order to my haphazard personal data backup practices. I've got an external drive or two, 2 docks, and several loose HDD's. Problem is I don't know what's on which drive. So your comment gives me another push to not only organize things, but back up stuff that I haven't yet.
