How to install as first OS?

Hi, I just built a new PC but I don't have an operating system so I can't use it... I don't want to pay for w7 and I wanted to give this a try. I was wondering if it was possible to use this ubuntu as a first OS and if so how? Sorry if this was already posted, I searched and it didn't give any results.

you will first want to check any info about UEFI.

    1. download ubuntu here (the top one)

    2. get your .iso image md5sum

    3. Verify .iso integrity:
Scroll down to MD5SUM with "Checksums calculator" https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

    4. put .iso image to usb flash drive or cd/dvd (burn as image, and use slowest burning speed)

    5. test the system from the live disc first, using the Try option instead of Install, to see if you hardware works

    6. install ubuntu

assumin gthe OP has UEFI that is.... even if they do have uefi, if there is no OS on it and you only intend to have linux you can just use BIOS.

install is easy and short.: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/installing

as long as hardware is compatible...
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?
Full disk backup (newer kernel -> suitable for newer PC): Clonezilla
User friendly full disk backup: Rescuezilla
