    tweaking sysctl.conf

Is there a need to tweak /etc/sysctl.conf?

Are the default settings of this sufficient to secure my computer?

Do I need to uncomment lines to prevent MITM attacks and router redirects?

And do I need to edit/add additional items to ignore broadcasts(ipv4) and echo replies?

That is sort of a broad question, and you can not prevent MIM attacks with sysctl.conf

    I suggest you start here:
