    OS X Lion Hostname Issues

So, I'm battling my laptop for the power to change my hostname. After using the hostname command it apparently changed it, because after reissuing the command without any parameters it returned the hostname I had entered. But, it failed to change the name on the network. I've also tried changing the HOSTNAME variable and exporting it, as well as the command "sudo scutil --set HostName new-hostname". Now everywhere I look, I'm told that the host name is what I wanted to change it too, but on the network, even after a reboot, it tells me it's the old one.

I've managed to change my hostname, but now I can't seem to change my domain from .local to what I want it to be. Does anyone know how to do this? Every hit I get from Google is about joining an Active Directory domain. I'd just like to join the domain I created on my router.
