    Question Srange boot behaviour Ubuntu on iMac

    I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed on my Intel iMac. Except the keyboard everything is working fine out of the box. There is however one thing I like to be solved, that is strange startup behaviour. When I start the iMac Ubuntu will startup and failed to startup turn by turn. When it starts I see a underscore blinker for a few seconds afterwards the graphical startup screens is displayed and Ubuntu loads. The next time I start the iMac I only get a black screen. After I restart the iMac Ubuntu loads again. It is on a turn by turn basis. Strange is it not?

    Does anyone know what to do?

    I don't have an iMac but on my MacBook 4,1 Ubuntu 12.04 runs without problems. What is your hardware configuration? The black screen during startup may be an indication of problems with the graphics card. What is the graphics card and what driver do you use?
    Did you take a look into the system log file after a failed startup? It may contain hints on what exactly caused the failure.

    Thank you for your reply.

    I have a Radeon HD 4670 with 256 MB. I use the hardware driver that is available from the hardware installation tool in system settings. I will look into the logfiles and post some rows in this thread.

    What is odd, is that it works well after a restart from a failed start. So for every new startup the cycle is: working - not working - working - not working and so on.

    I made Grub visible on every startup and noticed that the problem resides before Grub loads.

    I installed a efi partition as first partition with 100 MB size and FAT32.

    I seems that I solved my issue. I disconnected my mouse during a startup and the startup continued. I tried multiple times and I placed my mouse back in and the same issue occured.
