Angry ubuntu noticeably slower than osx/ no flash

    hello.

i installed ubuntu on my ppc g4 the other day and have noticed it has been WAY slower than osx 10.4.11

i am aslo having trouble playing flash videos, i have searched the problem and it has told me there is no adobe for ppc's using ubuntu... i installed gnash and swfdec in an attempt to get something, but its not working.

i would like to know if there is any solution to the video problem and any reason you can think of that my computer would be so slow. i only use my computer for music, videos and the odd game so if nothing can be fixed ill have to go back to osx.. *sigh* maybe give linux another try when i buy a better computer

    any help would be awesome.
    thanks.

first, did you actual install it on the hard drive or are you running it off the live CD, running off the CD will be considerably slower then it will be once you have installed it. if you did install it and its running slow check your ram if you have 256 it will probably run prity slow, you should then try xubuntu.

now as for flash, all i did was go to google and type in flash. the first search result was this
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
from the drop down box select APT for ubuntu 9.04, then click agrey and install.
when the next box pops up hit ok, then folow the rest of the instructions from there.

so you search the problem did you?

My two G4's are noticably faster on Debian than OSX? I booted OSX the first time for months the other day as I needed to print a letter and there were no free drivers. So there must be some process running in the back ground, or graphics issue. Search the forum if it's common it'll show up.

run the top command to see if somethings hogging the processor.

    Code:
    top
re: flash again search the forum. youtube is easy, I use clive but there's many other options. Flash in general is a curse. flash 8 should be ok in gnash anything above that is very hit and miss, 10 a no go. I don't have gnash or swfdc as they may well be hogging processes as some website tries to do damn knows what. In short flash sucks.

If you must have it MOL (Mac on Linux) works on Debian Lenny I don't know about Ubuntu

No! That does not work in this case.

There is no flash for powerpc linux.

Read the powerpcfaqs for answers to many questions:

If you are looking to use flash to view video on sites like youtube, etc. Try out Google's Chrome (WWW.Google.com/chrome) you can also try http://code.Google.com/p/chromium/wi...romiumPackages for an alternate to Google's Chrome.

When someone builds a PPC linux version of Chromium maybe we can see youtube using html5. Until such a time as previous users have said there is No Flash for PPC on GNU/Linux.

Now we have native ogg support in Firefox, Chromium, iceape, etc maybe people will post more content in ogg as there is No Flash for PPC on GNU/Linux. Or even post in the patent encumbered mpg formats as there is No Flash for PPC on GNU/Linux but at least we can play them with free-software.

If you are running some of the lastest versions of Powerpc Ubuntu it will go alot slower on a G4 processer than Mac OSX,I know this because I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my Emac USB 2.0 (G4 Processer) and it goes alot slower than Mac OSX 10.5.8,Adobe has never made a working Flashplayer for PowerPC Ubuntu and has now stopped creating versions for Intel Ubuntu so if you want to play some of the best Flashplayer content you will need a Mac OSX or Windows
