Question Can i add Gnome 3 repo in Lucid without upgrading the whole desktop?

I understand you will probably tell me "just don't do it",however I'm asking just to be sure:can I actually add the Gnome 3 repo in Lucid, not to upgrade the whole desktop to Gnome 3 (which I don't want at all),but in order to install some higher version libraries (like libgtkmm-2.4-dev version 1:2.22) needed to compile a program?

Interesting, thank you - not sure that what I have in mind can be done without breaking a lot of stuff, but I will try to do some homework before going for it.
