Mid 2007 Macbook 2,1 Ubuntu 12.04, no sound from headphones

I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my mid 2007 Macbook 2, and can only hear audio through my built-in speakers. Whenever I plug in my headphones, there is no sound AND, there is a red light that glows from the jack. Is there any fix for this?

I have the same hardware and the same issue. Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanx, Erik

This worked for me. Unmute speaker1 by hitting the right arrow button twice to highlight speaker1 then press m

Same problem, but the alsamixer solution worked great.

Can confirm that this is simple and effective on a Core 2 Duo MacBook.

    Much obliged!
