Run a mile... for your brain.

If you have 10 minutes to spare, run a mile and post how long it took. You can use Google Maps to plot the course. I didn't record the precise time, unfortunately, but it took between 7 and 9 minutes.

Researchers are validating the idea that exercise has benefits for cognitive, social and academic performance, and long-term cognitive health.

When I was running 8 miles a day, I also frequently jumped out of airplanes.

Kinda shoots the "improved cognitive abilities" theory to heck.

If I tried it - running, that is, not jumping out of planes - I'd be at the doctor's surgery in very short order, with wrecked joints. (I don't think jumping out of planes would do much for my joints, either. )

Walking is also a very good form of exercise and the one I prefer.

I run, but you need more than 10 mins, unless you are home and do not mind not to shower ..

You only think jumping from planes is stupid because your abilities have declined, or the correlation (relationship, best fit line, whatever) isn't linear.

I've heard that strength training helps strengthen bones, even for the elderly.

If you weren't going to shower ayway, then rinsing off takes maybe 5 minutes.

Never been into running, I have other ways of making myself look....wait...better be careful where I go with that thought.....

I jumped out of planes a few times in the past. Broke my ankle on one jump, and 30+ years later, it occasionally reminds me.

It took 7 minutes 20 seconds, but I could have tried harder.
    Rinse: 3 minutes
    Entire activity: 15 mintues.

I'll run 2 miles next time.

When it is not raining, I prefer to run 30 min before going to work in the morning, and get a real shower. Depending on my schedule that can vary a lot, I am able to make it at least once a week (+ one interval training with a group and a longer run on the WE). *If it does not rain*.

I'll be running at your level are soon enough, bapoumba. The muscle is still in there somewhere!

Actually, the testosterone must be accounted for too. I prefer to keep my testosterone levels below my natural level, and perhaps I've been less of a risk-taker since.

Re: Run a mile... for your brain.

btw, this thing's autosaving every several seconds. Is that normal?

I ran the first mile (1.61 km) in 6:57. I walked after running 2.6 miles (4.2 km) in 21:06, and the full three miles (4.8 km) took ~29 minutes.

But if I want to compete with bapoumba, perhaps I better start running kilometers rather than miles.
