Any 12.04 Screensavers That Work?
Currently dealing with a long term problem on my notebook of the screen not being able to come back on after it shuts off when the machine is idle. If I see the screen start to go dim, but the backlight is still on, I can move the mouse and I'll get a password prompt and I can log in.
But once that backlight turns off, there is nothing I can do to get it to come back on, and I have to do a hard reset. This happens several times a day, and I know my hard drive is gonna be toast if I do this enough times.
So my question is, how can I install a screen saver that will come on when the laptop goes idle? My goal is to lock the screen for security reasons, but keep the backlight on.
I tried installing a couple different screensavers I found in Synaptics and Ubuntu Software Center, but they don't seem to work, mainly because there is no way I can find to configure them, given the ridiculously limited system settings options we now have. Also, I'm not even sure they are compatible with 12.04.
Can anyone show me how I can get a screensaver working in 12.04, 64 bit? Thanks in advance.

How about a solution to your problem, rather than some lipstick for it
This worked for me;

A guide that worked for me to install Xscreensaver in Ubuntu 12.04.

Watch out for the spelling mistake on the grey desktop where 'application' is shown as 'applicaton'
I had a bit of trouble with Glideshow but this fixed it:
sudo apt-get install libwww-perl

Reason: Spelling!
