    Printer installation?

I purchased a HP 1000 deskjet printer. It won't print. It appears to be installed properly. I even receive a window that asks if I want to print a test page. Nothing happens. I returned the printer, and got another one (same kind), and still nothing. I contacted HP. They gave me a download for compatible drivers; which I downloaded. Still nothing. When I put the CD in, I get an icon on my desktop. I know my computer is reading the CD. All the instructions say to not connect the USB until directed. No matter what I do, I am never directed. I have tried following the directions specifically, and I have also uninstalled and reinstalled, and connected the USB. Still nothing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have Ubuntu 10.04; and an HP 1000 desk jet printer.

it sounds like you don't have a compatible driver installed...

go here for the latest HPLIP driver that is supposed to be compatible for your printer:
