Re: Netgear USB N150 wireless adapter keeps asking for password ubuntu 12.04

When I installed Ubuntu 12.04, I installed the 32-bit version. So I am pretty sure that I have a 32-bit system (i686). However is there a command that I can run from the terminal to confirm this? One note. I am a real newby.

I did try the drivers that you attached in post 46 (WinXP.zip). Next I extracted the drivers to the desktop. I then went into the ndisgtk application (the description on the icon is "Windows Wireless Drivers") and I pointed it to Desktop/WinXP/netrtwlanu.inf. At that point I received the following error message:

    "netrtwlanu Invalid Driver!"

I guess my next step is to confirm that I have a 32-bit system. If I do have a 32-bit system then what would be my next step?

    Yes, there is:
    Code:
    arch
    "netrtwlanu Invalid Driver!"
    Let's have a look at:
    Code:
    lsusb

    My results for Code: arch

    dzdb@dzdb-System-Product-Name:~$ arch

I think it is actually the correct driver for your device. Let's see if we can find out what's wrong. With the device inserted, please run and post:
    Code:
    ndiswrapper -l
    sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
    dmesg | grep ndis
Some of these may produce errors or warnings; it is those that we'll use to find out what to fix.

Re: Netgear USB N150 wireless adapter keeps asking for password ubuntu 12.04

    Hi Chill,

I have same problem of wifi disconnecting from TP-WN821N usb wifi device.
    Using 12.10 64 bit on i7 3770 core.

out of the commands you gave
    sudo modprobe -r rtl8192cu
    successfully uninstalled the module.
but doesn't seem to recognize sudo modprobe 8192cu command.

    lsmod | grep -e rtl -e 80211 returns nothing.

    sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-cw-2.2-precise-generice-pae didn't work

sudo modprobe rtl8192cu swenc=1 seems to connect to network but there is no traffic seen and get page not available error

Didn't wanted to try ndiswrapper as I am on 64 bit and XP drivers might not help.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks
    Shashank.
