This may be an issue. It looks like the same in-kernel driver was reloaded. Let's verify. Please repeat all of the commands above and check:Is it rtl8192cu that's loaded or the driver you compiled, 8192cu? If it is 8192cu, the compiled version, we know it isn't helping us at all and we may as well uninstall it:

The next thing we might try is the Ubuntu version of the compat-wireless driver:
sudo make uninstall
Reboot and let us know if there is any improvement.
