    Re: MCE Remote stopped working

From terminal in current dir as home (i.e., '~/'):
    Code:
    #Get the kernel source
    sudo apt-get install linux-source
    #Unpack JUST the mceusb driver
    tar jxvf /usr/src/linux-source-3.2.0.tar.bz2 linux-source-3.2.0/drivers/media/rc/mceusb.c
    cd linux-source-3.2.0/drivers/media/rc/
Now modify the mceusb.c file as per the how to (i.e., patching by hand)
Proceed with the following (still in terminal with current dir = ~/linux-source-3.2.0/drivers/media/rc/):
    Code:
    #no Makefile needed
    make -C /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r) M=$(pwd) modules
    #Backup the old module
    cd /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/media/rc/
    sudo mv mceusb.ko mceusb.ko.old
    #Install the new one
    cd ~/linux-source-3.2.0/drivers/media/rc/
    sudo cp -v mceusb.ko /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/media/rc
    #Activate the module:
    sudo rmmod mceusb
    sudo modprobe mceusb
and add it to your /etc/modules file as per the how to.

You will HAVE to repeat this process (except the /etc/modules edit) on EVERY kernel update.

    Re: MCE Remote stopped working

I had the same problem. My solution was to order a new remote control. I suggest buying from Amazon due to their generous return policy. The key is finding a USB receiver with a manufacturer ID that the kernel supports. You can find the supported IDs in the kernel source mceusb.c (or maybe they're in a header .h file, I can't remember). To find the ID of your device plug it into the computer and do `lsusb'.

This is the one that worked for me. Noah Company MediaGate GP-IR02BK
