Nautilus opening instead of the default program

When i try to open a file in the Dash it opens the nautilus instead of the default program for that file, for example I click on a PDF file in the dash and instead of running Evince, it runs Nautilus and opens the folder where file is located. Any help?

Try right clicking on the pdf file within Nautilus and select <open with other application> - is that set to Evince ?

If not use <Show other applications> and set.

It is set to Evince. It's not just about PDF, no matter what type the file is, it always opens Nautilus. It also hapens when I open the file from Chromium downloads.
