Red face Skype for linux is outdated in software center

    Hi.
This is my first-ever post on this forum. So am I welcome or not?
My point is, I visited the Skype website to look for a version for linux. There I got Skype 4.x which is NOT enlisted in Ubuntu Software Center.
What's more, there are quite a lot more apps found to be outdated (like Eclipse- Indigo is enlisted, not Juno the latest).
Now this is embarrassing to use outdated softwares and don't get the newer features!

    Regards.
    Subhadeep

    Welcome aboard!

About skype, I was glad to see the news about the update:

As for the repos, here is the bug report:

you can add yourself to it and see when it will get updated.

But is not such a big deal since the packages from the skype site seem to work pretty well for most people for now, also old skype still works for me (but plan to update soon)

It's the way it works - no you won't get new versions of apps as they are released by whoever decides to release them.

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports

When Ubuntu releases a new version of its OS every 6 months, that release is largely frozen in time. While the software that is part of that release will get bug fixes and security patches, new major releases of software and the new features that come with them will not be available.

I downloaded and installed the deb from the Skype website, and now I am using it without any problems whatsoever.
