    Question PlayOnLinux vs Wine

I'm thinking to switch to linux completly (with my laptop I will still keep desktop with win). And cause I found out that most of my games that my laptop can run works trough wine. But Baldur's gate swords shore (or something) crahes with wine (read from wine app data base). But when I checked playonlinux it should work with it. How's that possible? playonlinux uses wine so....

POL applies some extra tweaks that may be needed sometimes. Check their site for more info.

anyway this is a 2 year old thread, mod don't like old threads resurrecting (necromancy ) so it will probably get closed very soon.

playonlinux also includes (or downloads for you if needed the correct version of) wine and some other stuff, so is good option to try first.

if the games are on the POL list is usually because they have tweaks for them and stuff that make them work better.

Else you don't need it and can try installing it as normal without using the pol interface or just use normal wine.

As for Gamersgate, I haven't use that but it seems similar to Desura.

    gamersgate had this faq before:
    http://www.definiteanswers.com/q/Doe...-4c10f885d7b7a

    and check here:
    http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...estingId=59806

but you may want to ask in their forums if you can't get things to work.

    good luck.
