booting Asus eee pc 1005 HAG from USB

I am trying to boot an Asus 1005HAG (new install of Windows 7 Starter) using a live USB Ubuntu 12.04, made for the prpose. I have disabled HDD boot and enabled USB boot. I get the message

"Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

    Any ideas?

I have just tried to open "VirtualBox" on the Asus and get an error message

"This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPUae
Unable to boot - Please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU"

The CPU is an Intel Atom CPU N270 AT 1.60GHz. Memory 1GB 32 bit Windows 7 Starter.
