    Ubuntu on MacBook

Now that Apple have announced that Mountain Lion, OS X 10.8 will not work on older MacBooks, I am thinking of junking OS X and installing Ubuntu on the laptop as the sole operating system. Anyone done this? Any hints or warnings? I have a MacBook2,1 (plastic case) 2GB RAM and 500GB HDD. Will all the hardware work?

In all honesty I never have owned a mac only used them in school but need more info on hardware specs like processor, ethernet card, graphics card, an than some. reason being is that sometimes hardware is not compatible with linux an could cause problems.

    Re: Ubuntu on MacBook

I know some people here use Ubuntu on Mac hardware, but I don't do that myself. I managed to boot Ubuntu once on a relatively new Mac, but that's all I have ever done.

You should just download an Ubuntu CD and try to boot the Mac from it. If everything works (audio, video, wireless), then you are good-to-go.

given that all macs have the same hardware configuration based on the model you can easily find guides and troubleshootings. See my previous post or take a look here.

I love the thought, although i personally don't consider buying a macbook.

    Check the Mac forums here.
    Or the Documentations here.

    Good luck & enjoy
