    Drop down window bug

    Hi
Before I fill out a bug report and set up an account with Launchpad I thought I'd post the problem first.

When I use the mouse to copy a link and then right click the drop down opens but as soon as I attempt to use the drop down with the mouse the drop down crashes.

All of the drop down windows in Mozilla Firefox in Bookmarks I get the same thing. When I right click on the Bookmarks tab the drop down appears but upon trying to use the mouse pointer to scroll down the drop down box; the drop down menu crashes.

This has been going on for a while now. I've had to use the up, down, right and left arrow keys to copy and paste anything. It's starting to become annoying and makes it very difficult to post or e-mail.

Can you be more specific -- what do you mean, it "crashes"?

In my day, we had outdoors in which to run, play, and socialise. Now we have computers to do those.

When I hover over the drop down window it crashes in all directions and

Falls downwardly and dissipates quickly and vanishes from sight-

That sounds like poetry! This could start a new trend in bug reporting.

So, the drop-down menu spreads all over the place as if it were exploding and then disappears?

I wonder if Compiz is at fault here.

    Please try this:

Log out. Choose "Ubuntu 2D" (press the cog wheel to find this). Log in.

Do you still get the error?

Poetry....ha yeah; that made me smile-

Here's where it gets interesting. For as long as I've had Ubuntu ( 2 years) as my OS it has never prompted me to log in or out. Only start the computer and Ubuntu is up and running (or) I tell Ubuntu to shut down.

It could be Compiz but since I don't have this log/in/out like everyone else :
Is there another function you could recommend that I can perform?

Click the cog-wheel on the top-right corner > Log Out. You should be able to choose Unity 2D and log in.

It will remember your choice, so to get back to Unity 3D, log out again.

When I clicked th cog-wheel it changed my webpages. I had Firefox open and it switched my pages upon right clicking on the wheel.
When I closed my web browser and attempted your advise again it initiated the compiz cube-

This has been the week of peculiar occurrences; to say the least.

That is indeed most bizarre. But then I've just noticed that you use Lucid 10.04. I was under the misunderstanding that you were using 12.04.

That means there is no "Unity" or "Unity 2D".

Instead, right-click your desktop, and in the appearance (I'm sorry, I have forgotten the exact menu structure) choose to have No Effects. That will turn off Compiz. You may have to log out and in again (or reboot if that's easier for you).

See what happens then with your drop-down menus.

When I right clk on my desktop my options are:
    - create folder
    -create launcher
    -create document
    -Scripts and etc......
I'll look in change desktop background and see if " No Effects" is there-
