Can't login to windows domain if password is about to expire

Hello guys,

trying to find a solution for this odd problem:
Whenever a Windows user's password is X days from being expired, normally when he logs into the domain he gets the famous message that says "your account will expire in X days..." and he has the choice of changing or continuing .
Now..
When the same user will try to log into an Ubuntu 12.04 machine, he will enter his username and password and then will get the same message "your account will expire in X days..." but that's about it. nothing happens, and the fill-in box changes into "username" again.
I've enclosed the screenshot.

I would very much appreciate some help on this...

Are you using no-password login.

No. I use the regular username+password
This user belongs to a windows domain. if his windows password doe's not about to expire he can login to the Ubuntu machine without any problems.
