I could not get this to work with flash, plus there were some problems with your instructions.
First off, I was copying and pasting your commands and at the point in red...
Code:
cd ~/Desktop
tar -xzvf firefox-1.5.0.4.tar.gz firefox
sudo mkdir /usr/local/firefox32
cd ~/firefox
sudo cp -r -p ./* /usr/local/firefox32/
I had a problem, because no firefox directory had been created in my home directory, but instead it was on my desktop, so that should be cd firefox, or cd ~/Desktop/firefox
Then when I was actually trying to install Flash, I never had the option to change the directory. I was told that it was going to install it to /home/<username>/.mozilla and all I had for options were Yes, No, or Quit. And if I selected No, it just repeated over and over.
So right now I do have a working 32 bit Firefox install, but no Flash.
EDIT: Ok, so I figured out that you need a sudo before the last line of the flash install line, otherwise it can't install to anywhere but your home directory.
Just thought I'd point that out.
Everything works great now.
