    dencrypt@dencrypt-desktop:~$ swiftweasel32
    the settings directory exists
    settings file check passed

Just these. And it is still just an X in upper corner of the window...

Swiftweasel also hangs totally and I have to terminate it.

I can confirm the same behavior (Firefox 'about:plugins' says Java plugin is recognized but when I open a page with an applet it doesn't work and presents a red X at the left top corner ) and error messages related to libqtengine.so.

I'm using Firefox 32 in a Hardy box. Flash is ok, but Java doesn't work at all. I'd installed Firefox32 and its plugins from the script and picked up the Gusty option, as suggested in beginning of the thread.

When I run Firefox32 from Konsole I get these messages:

    Code:
    ph@rocha:~$ firefox32

Strangely, java works fine on my install. I wish it would be messed up so I could see what its doing in front of me.
But I do see a slight pattern. It appears you are running kde by the errors I see before me. I dont think the theme engine error could do this, but to remove it try this package.
Do you have any other java installs?

You to can try the flie linked right above. Also the bolded error indicates you do not have ia32-libs installed. Please make sure its installed. Would you happen to be using apparmor?

Alright, here goes the first post:

I used the script supplied, and it installed with no errors. Choose swiftweasel as browser.

The problem is Java. I am trying to login to home banking, but instead of starting the java applet I get a red "X" in the corner of the embedded frame, and if hover the mouse over the java frame the status bar reads "Loading java applet failed". After a second or two, swiftweasel hangs and i have to force quit.

Java works fine on every other Java required site i have tried.

I am using Ubuntu Hardy on an AMD machine.

The same thing is happening with me in Hardy64. I am using GNOME, so its confirmed that KDE is not the problem. I am also getting a cross, and once I open the Java Console, I get this--

And I must tell you that I had to be real swift to capture this console-output. A second later, firefox hangs. Like others Youtube worked for me but I am not sure as the music paused every now and then. It might be a bandwidth issue or its a Java issue.

Since java works in other sites, Im not sure what else can be done. Im not sure this is an install isuee any more, but a java issue.

Re: Howto Install 32 bit Firefox with Flash w/sound and Java for AMD64

I tried using Explorer in my virtualbox windows xp (sorry for cursing). When i came to the login part, I had to verify that I wanted to run, and install certain apps before I could get any further. All i had to do was press "yes" a couple of times, then all was fine.

So you are probably right, it has to be a Java issue. Another thing i noticed was that in windows, a Java icon apeared in the system tray, indicating that I was running a Java app. This never happens in any of the Java sites i visited which also worked on swiftweasel/ubuntu.

Very strange, I think my Java is working fine, but somewhere there is some setting prohibiting me from installing Java apps.

Anyone know their way around Java? Should i make a new thread?

Bu the way, here is my java console output before swiftweasel hangs:

    Code:
    Java Plug-in 1.6.0_06
Using JRE version 1.6.0_06 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM

I just wanted to pass along that I'm having the same problem. I had used this script to install Firefox and Java with Gutsy and it worked fine. I just upgraded to Hardy a few hours ago and ran the new script, but can't get Java applets to run anywhere.

My observations are all similar to what the other people are reporting.
