Howto Install 32 bit Firefox with Flash w/sound and Java for AMD64

I used the script and it seems as though it didn't work for me. here is my code.

You may get a 'sudo: Unable to get working directory' error when the script cleans up after itself. Please disregard it.

The error has nothing to do with the running of firefox. Editing things in a howto that you have no idea what they do can cause problems.

Its amazing you forgot to mention you edited something.

This part of the error is whats stoping the install

Linux32 should be in the repositories of Ubuntu, but it isnt in the Kubuntu repositories. Are you running Kubuntu, or maybe Xubuntu?

Hey, First off I'd look to say good job on the how-to and also on being so prompt with replying to everyone's posts.

Okay I am a newbie to Ubuntu (and Linux) so forgive me if this seems like a stupid post.

I ran the script and it seemed like everything worked fine but when I start up firefox by typing

into the terminal it seems like it is starting up 64-bit firefox. When I go to help>about in firefox it says the version is Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.0.5) Gecko/20060727 Ubuntu/dapper-security Firefox/1.5.0.5. I have tried searching for a revelevant answer to my problem but to no avail. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The script should install a Firefox32 Web Browser entry in the Applications >Internet menu. You shouldnt have to type anything into a terminal once its installed.
Saying that, I do believe something went wrong. Wich of the scripts did you install?
Can you click on Places > Computer File System > usr > local, and see if there is a firefox32 folder, and if there is , is there a Firefox file? If so click on it and see what happens.
If there is no firefox32 folder, or firefox file, please try to install the script again. Afterwards imediatly type in firefox32. If the 64bit browser still launches, highlight eveything in the terminal since you started installing the script, right click on it then select copy, then paste it into a post here.

Yes, there is a firefox32 folder in usr/local and in that folder there is a application file called "firefox" (without the 32). When I execute this file it opens up Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.0.5) Gecko/20060727 Ubuntu/dapper-security Firefox/1.5.0.5. For some reason 32-bit firefox is not being launched.

Ok lets see if we can make this work. It looks like the files are in place but it is somehow not opening the one we want. We are going to save the Firefox files and setup links to firefox32 in its place. In case you ever want to undo this it will just be deleting links and renaming. Open a terminal and paste in the next 4 commands one at a time. Then close all open browser windows and restart firefox32 by the menu.

sudo ln -s /usr/local/bin/firefox32 /usr/bin/firefox
sudo mv /usr/lib/firefox /usr/lib/firefoxOld
sudo ln -s /usr/local/firefox32 /usr/lib/firefox

If something goes wrong. I dont think it will but there is always a chance. You can open up firefox at /usr/lib/firefoxOld or reinstall the Firefox package in syanaptic.

Hey, This thread is really useful, thanks for making it! I installed the flash player and the Mplayer. The flashplayer seemed to make things at youtube.com work perfectly. The mplayer works perfectly for that link you set up for people to test to see if it worked, but when I go to sites like www.filecabi.net www.break.com www.thatvideosite.com I can only hear the audio and there is no video with mplayer. Can you help me out?

There is something you can do, but it will make the 32bit Mplayer the standerd one. mplayer32 dosnt have controls to click on. So if you use the stand alone MPlayer a lot it may not be a good idea. Of course you could always launch it in a terminal as mplayer64 or create a shortcut.
