just found this thread. posted today that i had lost hdmi application sound (myth is fine) after moving to 12.04
I'm able to get headphone sound from firefox(youtube) but nothing over the HDMI.
I've pasted this in both asound.conf and ~/.asoundrc:
I'm hoping it's just some glaring error in this file that I'm missing.
The browsers just use the first card listed (I think)..
You could try setting the default sound card to the nVidia device..
MythTV enumerates the alsa subdevices of nvidia card [3,7,8,9] as (0-3)
Argh...followed the first step here and it's basically turning my xfce mythbuntu pvr into a gnome desktop!
As per one of the tutorials suggestions, I've posted a question (with full debug system info) over at:
An update: fiddling around with /etc/pulse/default.pa and pavucontrol I was able to get sound in a browser.
So now I have:
1) sound in Myth Recordings/Video (that's never changed)
2) sound in a web browser (just got it)
3) NO SOUND in Myth's Internet Video's, mythnetvision.
What worked for me for HDMI sound via GT430 card were the instructions in this document.
Scroll down to the HDMI sound section. The magic fix for me was to add the following configuration to /etc/modprobe.d
(create a anyfilename.conf file and place in that directory) Your hardware might require a different value especially if your video card is the 2nd card in the system. I had disabled the Intel graphics in bios.Code:options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=0x8
After you reboot, you may need to reconfigure .asoundrc and MythTV sound.
Thanks. The only problem is that I already looked at that guide.
There's a major stumbling block though.
/proc/asound/NVidia is empty
I have files in NVidia_1, but running
grep "eld_valid *1" /proc/asound/NVidia_1/eld* gives me nothing,
so I can't go on to the next step.
Okay...fixed it. Used info in this page: http://omappedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_PA#PA_through_HDMI

### Make some devices default
Suddenly everything's working. as for the choppy podcast, I think it may be an issue with the podcast as I added another one and it seems fine
