    HDMI port

    Hi

I suspect that the HDMI port of my DELL Vostro 1450 is not working. Is there any way to test this thru a software? I use Ubuntu 12.04.

    Welcome to Ubuntu

A little more info might make it easier to help.

If you don't have sound open alsamixer in a terminal
    Code:
     alsamixer
And increase the s/pdif controls , they control hdmi

ok.. let me start from the beginning..
everything was hunkydory in 11.10.. i upgraded to 12.04 LTS
then the only way i could get HDMI output to my Sony Bravia was when I restarted the laptop with TV connected with HDMI..
subsequently, that trick has stopped working..

now when i connect both, my laptop detects TV and behaves as if its in extended screen mode.. but my TV doesn't recognise anything, stays blank, no sound either..i tried alsamixer too..

i eliminated faults on account of TV port or HDMI cable by connecting a DVD player to the TV via HDMI and it worked like a charm..

so now i need to understand if its a software issue or hardware issue on laptop.. thats why i want to test the HDMI port on my laptop

    Hey,

You know that in the sound preferences you have a chose between different input and outputs. Can you try if this can work. If your software is recognized correctly then you will find options what to chose.

    cheers
