Ubu 11.10 refuses to boot without help

I have had this problem through several releases and have run out of ideas. I have searched and attempted many suggestions and thought I had at least partly solved it by having Boot Info Script run at every startup, but find that does not work with Oneiric. I have a multi-partition setup and choose at grub which os to boot. When I select any ubu version (I have two ubu releases with separate home drives and a shared ntfs volume and 7) it will almost imediately stall with no discernable activity unless I depress the Ctrl key within a few seconds of selecting an os. It will then boot fine. If this happens -- it sometimes boots normally with no help -- it often winds up being unstable once up and running, with occassional cursor freezes or missing window buttons etc. It has been getting progressively worse though and I would like to figure out where I have messed up.

I don't understand much of the boot info script output so I will attach it here in the hopes someone can spot the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Code:
Boot Info Script 0.60 from 17 May 2011

Re: Ubu 11.10 refuses to boot without help

    Thanks

I guess by boot you mean startup, unfortunately, I cannot help you, my question to you now, are you using another computer or OS to post this thread?

I am able to boot ubu just fine occassionally, and this is one of those times. But it is getting worse, and am hoping to discover what the problem is and stop it before things go completely haywire.

Yes, I have. I have wondered if having 2 instances of grub on separate partitions would be an issue though. I was careful to tell the installer to install grub to "sda" only and not to any particular partition, so it must be correct for grub to be on both. I am very wary of simply plucking things out and crashing this install. I do have backups but something always gets mucked up whenever I install a backup.

Thanks buddy. I'll give that a try, but I am fairly sure I tried that before. Worth a shot regardless. I'll post the result in a bit.

Re: Ubu 11.10 refuses to boot without help

I am going to resurect this thread. I am still unable to boot Ubuntu without holding down the control key. I tried everything I know without success. http://paste.ubuntu.com/1073252/ is the most recent boot info url I got running boot-repair. The system simply stops responding at boot if I do not press the control key. It will occassionally boot normally if the power cord is disconected, or sometimes after switching out of windows 7 but mostly it just goes brain-dead unless "helped". Any ideas what I can do to fix this?

    Thanks.

    Hello
please run Boot-Repair, click "Advanced options", go to the "GRUB options" tab, tick the "out-of-range" option, apply, indicate the URL that will appear.
    Reboot, indicate what you observe.
